Minggu Katekatikal 2011

Berakar dan dibangun di atas Yesus Kristus dan teguh dalam iman (Kol 2:7)

Tema Minggu Katekatikal kita pada tahun ini akan memberi fokus kepada mesej Bapa Suci Benediktus XVI pada Hari Belia Sedunia yang akan dianjurkan di ibu negeri Sepanyol iaitu Madrid pada bulan Ogos 2011. Tema yang dipetik dari Kolose 2:7 adalah “Berakar dan dibangun di atas Yesus Kristus dan teguh dalam iman”.

Media massa menghubungkan segenap penjuru dunia. Ini memberikan kita peluang untuk melihat apa yang berlaku di serata dunia. Jika kita lihat pada globalisasi dunia kita pada masa kini, kita berdepan dengan masalah manusia sejagat, perkauman dan iman. Manusia mempunyai kecenderungan untuk mengetepikan Allah dari kehidupan dengan berkerja tanpa campurtangan Allah. Dalam usaha untuk menghidupi kepentingan masa kini, iaitu untuk selalu menjadi nombor satu adalah suatu kemestian dan ukuran kejayaan, semua benda lain menjadi tidak berguna dan kehilangan erti. Mereka mendapati bahawa mereka hidup dalam dunia yang kosong dan tanpa tujuan hanya kerana mereka berfikir bahawa mereka boleh hidup tanpa Allah. Dalam mesej kepada para belia, Bapa Suci menggalakkan mereka untuk mengukuhkan iman mereka dalam Allah yakni Bapa kepada Tuhan kita Yesus Kristus. Dia berkata, “Kamu adalah masa hadapan masyarakat dan Gereja!” Seperti yang ditulis oleh Rasul Paulus kepada jemaat di Kolose, ia adalah amat penting untuk berakar secara teguh, suatu asas yang kuat! Terutamanya dalam dunia masa kini! Keinginan untuk suatu kehidupan yang lebih bermakna merupakan suatu petunjuk bahawa Allah tela mencipta kita dan kita membawa bersama kita “tanda”-Nya dalam diri kita. Kita semua “dipanggil untuk bersatu dengan Allah. Jemputan panggilan untuk berbicara dengan Allah sudah diberikan kepada manusia sebaik sahaja dia wujud di dunia ini. Ini adalah kerana manusia wujud kerana Allah telah menciptannya atas dasar cinta dan kerana cinta inilah manusia terus wujud. Dia tidak akan dapat hidup dengan sepenuhnya berdasarkan kebenaran jika dia tidak mengakui cinta tersebut serta menyerahkan dirinya dengan penuh kepercayaan kepada penciptanya (Gaudium et Spes 19§I). Perbuatan menyisihkan Allah adalah perbuatan menyisihkan diri kita dari sumber kehidupan dan secara langsung menghalang diri kita dari menikmati kepenuhan dan kegembiraan: “tanpa pencipta, ciptaan hilang dalam kekosongan” (Gaudium et Spes 36).

Untuk menegaskan kepentingan iman dalam kehidupan, Bapa Suci Benediktus XVI sekali lagi membantu kita untuk merenung pada setiap tiga perkataan yang digunakan oleh Santo Paulus: “Berakar dan dibangun di atas Yesus Kristus dan teguh dalam iman” (ruj. Kol 2:7). Ini bermakna bahawa iman kita haruslah berakar dalam Kristus kerana dia adalah sumber pengharapan, kehidupan dan cintakasih. “Diberkatilah orang yang mengandalkan TUHAN, yang menaruh harapannya pada TUHAN! Ia akan seperti pohon yang ditanam di tepi air, yang merambatkan akar-akarnya ke tepi batang air, dan yang tidak mengalami datangnya panas terik, yang daunnya tetap hijau, yang tidak kuatir dalam tahun kering, dan yang tidak berhenti menghasilkan buah” (Yer 17:7-8). Bagi nabi tersebut, merambatkan akar-akarnya bermakna meletakkan kepercayaan sepenuhnya kepada Allah. Tanpa Dia, kita tidak dapat hidup secara sepenuhnya. Bapa Suci Benediktus XVI berkata dalam homilinya, “Kehidupan sebenar bermula hanya apabila Allah ditemui. Kita hanya dapat mengetahui erti kehidupan apabila kita bertemu dengan Allah yang hidup dalam diri Kristus. Kita bukanlah suatu hasil evolusi yang bersahaja dan tidak bermakna. Setiap kita adalah hasil buah fikiran Allah. Dalam merayakan Mingu Katekatikal, marilah kita memfokuskan minda dan hati kita kepada Yesus Kristus Tuhan kita dengan kembali kepada asas iman kita. Seperti yang Bapa Suci katakan, “Sama seperti akar kepada pokok yang meneguhkan kedudukannya di atas tanah, begitu juga asas kepada rumah yang memberikan kestabilan yang kekal. Melalui iman, kita dibangun dalam Kristus, seperti rumah dibina atas asas yang kukuh. Sejarah Suci memberikan banyak contoh santo dan santa yang telah membangun kehidupan mereka berdasarkan Sabda Allah. Dibangun dalam Kristus bermaksud memberi respon positif kepada panggilan Allah, mempercayai Dia dan melakukan apa yang disabdakan-Nya”.

Sememangnya terdapat arus pemikiran sekularis yang kuat dengan tujuan untuk mengetepikan Allah dari kehidupan manusia dan masyarakat. Ia mencadangkan dan cuba merealisasikan suatu “syurga” tanpa Dia. Namun demikian, pengalaman memberitahu kita bahawa dunia tanpa Allah menjadi “neraka”: Dunia yang dipenuhi sikap mementingkan diri sendiri, keluarga yang berpecah, kebencian antara individu dan negara, dan kekurangan cintakasih, kegembiraan dan harapan. Jika dibandingkan dengan mana-mana individu dan negara yang menerima kehadiran Allah, menyembah-Nya dalam kebenaran dan mendengar kepada bisikan-Nya, maka tamadun yang mempunyai cintakasih dibangun. Ia adalah suatu tamadun yang mana maruah semua orang dihormati, kesatuan meningkat dengan segala kebaikkannya. Martabat manusia terletak pada panggilannya untuk memasuki persekutuan dengan Allah (Gaudium et Spes 19§1). Terdapat juga umat Kristian yang membiarkan diri mereka untuk dipengaruhi oleh sekularisme atau tertarik oleh arus religes yang menhanyutkan mereka jauh dari beriman dalam Kristus. Terdapat juga mereka yang, walaupun tidak tunduk kepada semua godaan serta tarikan tersebut, telah membiarkan iman mereka menjadi lemah tanpa berbuat apa-apa. Ini mengakibatkan kesan negatif yang tidak dapat dielakkan pada kehidupan moral mereka. Agar dapat teguh dalam iman, Bapa Suci menasihatkan semua untuk belajar “melihat” dan “bertemu” dengan Yesus dalam Ekaristi kerana di sinilah Dia benar-benar hadir dan rapat dengan kita. Malah Dia menjadi santapan untuk perjalanan kita. Dalam Sakramen Pengakuan, Tuhan menyatakan Belas Kasihan-Nya dan selalu mengurniakan kita Pengampunan-Nya. Kenali dan layani Yesus dalam diri mereka yang miskin, sakit, dan dalam saudara saudari kita yang berada dalam kesusahan dan memerlukan pertolongan. Masuklah ke dalam perbualan peribadi dengan Yesus Kristus dan jagalah ia dalam iman. Kenali Dia dengan lebih baik melalui perbuatan pembacaan Injil dan Katekismus Gereja Katolik. Berbual dengan dia melalui doa dan percayalah akan Dia. Dia tidak akan mengkhianati kepercayaan itu!

Dengan melihat kepada sejarah Gereja, para santi dan martir selalu mendapat kekuatan dari kemuliaan Salib Kristus agar mereka terus setia kepada Allah. Ini sangat nyata hinggakan mereka sanggup mengorbankan nyawa. Dalam iman, mereka menemui kekuatan untuk mengatasi kelemahan dan mendapat kemenangan ke atas musuh. Kemenangan yang lahir dari iman adalah kemenangan cintakasih. Masih terdapat umat Kristian yang merupakan saksi hidup kepada kekuatan iman yang ditunjukkan melalui kerja amal.

Dalam merayakan Minggu Kateketikal tahun ini, marilah sebagai katekis dan umat Kristian menjadi terang dan garam dunia sebab Kristus bukan hanya dikhaskan bagi kita sahaja. Dia merupakan harta karun yang paling berharga bagi kita semua. Dia merupakan seseorang yang harus diperkongsikan kepada semua. Dalam era globalisasi, marilah menjadi saksi harapan Kristian kepada semua keluarga dan semua orang di serata dunia. Bapa Suci berkata, “Tidak ada yang lebih indah dari menemui kejutan dalam Injil, iaitu pertemuan dengan Kristus. Tidak ada yang lebih indah dari mengenali Dia dan berkongsi dengan orang lain tentang persahabatan kita dengan Dia” (Mass, Imposition of the Pallium and Conferral of the Fisherman’s Ring for the Beginning of the Petrine Ministry of the Bishop of Rome, 24th April 2005). Harapan ini datang dari pertemua peribadi dan persahabatan kita dengan Dia. Terdapat ramai yang menantikan untuk menerima harapan ini!

Dengan cara yang sama, Bapa Suci berkata, “Jika kamu percaya dan jika kamu dapat menghidupi iman dan bersaksi setiap hari, kamu akan menjadi alat untuk membantu orang lain seperti juga dengan diri kamu sendiri agar mereka juga menemukan erti dan kegembiraan dalam hidup. Semua ini hanya lahir dari pertemuan peribadi dengan Kristus! Oleh itu marilah kita merayakan Minggu Kateketikal dengan penuh makna iaitu dengan kembali kepada dasar iman kita yakni Yesus Kristus Tuhan kita.

Cadangan praktikal untuk aktiviti sempena Minggu Kateketikal 2011:

1. Mengadakan bengkel “Lectio Divina” diperingkat KKD/KUK/Zon/Paroki.

2. Untuk para Pelajar Menengah Atas: adakan KKS 7 langkah atau menulis renungan mengenai petikan (Mat 4:1-11)

3. Untuk para Pelajar Menengah Rendah: adakan KKS 7 langkah atau melakunkan mengenai petikan (Luke 19: 1-10)

4. Untuk para Pelajar Sekolah Rendah:

• Anjurkan pertandingan membaca Alkitab bagi tahun 4,5 & 6,

• Anjurkan pertandingan melukis atau mewarni gambar Yesus bersama-sama dengan kanak-kanak.

5. Mengadakan pembaharuan komitmen kepada semua katekis pembimbing dalam Misa Kudus

dan memberi Sijil Penghargaan untuk mereka.

6. Merenung dan memperdalamkan iman Tentang Tuhan Yesus dengan mempelajari petikan dari Katekismus Katolik Bab 2, no 422-682

7. Mengadakan pertandingan mencipta “Youtube” tentang Sabda Tuhan yang memberi hidup dan semangat dalam keluarga dan peribadi.

8. Adakan program yang bersesuaian menurut kemampuan dan kreativiti setiap paroki.

“Planted and built up in Jesus Christ, firm in the faith” (Col 2:7)

The theme of our Catechetical Sunday this year will focus on the message of Pope Benedict XVI on the occasion of The World Youth day which will be held in the Spanish capital, Madrid, on the month of August 2011. The theme “Planted and built up in Jesus Christ, firm in faith” is taken from Colossian 2:7.

The mass media brings every corner of the world together, giving us the opportunity to look at the world as a whole. As we look at the globalized world nowadays, we, somehow, encounter face to face the problems of human, culture and faith. People tend to remove God from their lives, doing things without the intervention of God. As they strive to fit into the flow of the current world, in which being number one is indispensible and the measure of success, everything becomes useless and meaningless. They find themselves living in an empty world without purpose because they thought that they can do anything without Him. In his message to the youths, the pope encourages them to strengthen their faith in God, the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ. He said, “You are the future of society and of the Church!” As the Apostle Paul wrote to the Christians of Colossae, it is vital to have roots, a solid foundation! Especially in today’s world! The desire for a more meaningful life is a sign that God created us and that we bear His “imprint”. We are all “called to communion with God. This invitation to converse with God is addressed to man as soon as he comes into being. For if man exists it is because God has created him through love, and through love continues to hold him in existence. He cannot live fully according to truth unless he freely acknowledges that love and entrusts himself to his creator” (Gaudium et Spes 19§I). To set God aside is to separate ourselves from that source and, inevitably, to deprive ourselves of fulfillment and joy: “without the creator, the creature fades into nothingness” (Gaudium et Spes 36).

In order to highlight the importance of faith in the lives of believers, Pope Benedict once again helps us to reflect on each of the three terms used by Saint Paul in the expression: “Planted and built up in Jesus Christ, firm in the faith” (cf. Col 2:7). This means that our faith must be grounded in Jesus as the source of our hope, life and love. “Blessed are those who trust in the Lord, whose trust is the Lord. They shall be like a tree planted by water, sending out its roots by the stream. It shall not fear when heat comes, and its leaves stay green; in the year of drought it is not anxious, and it does not cease to bear fruit” (Jer 17:7-8). For the prophet, to send out roots means to put one’s trust in God. For from Him we draw our life. Without Him, we cannot truly live. In His homily Pope Benedict said, “Only where God is seen does life truly begins. Only when we meet the living God in Christ do we know what life is. We are not some casual and meaningless product of evolution. Each of us is the result of a thought of God. Each of us is willed, each of us is loved, each of us is necessary” (Mass, Imposition of the Pallium and Conferral of the Fisherman’s Ring for the Beginning of the Petrine Ministry of the Bishop of Rome, 24th April 2005). “God gave us eternal life, and this life is in His Son” (1 Jn 5:11).

As we celebrate this Catechetical Sunday, let us focus our minds and hearts to Jesus Christ our Lord, by going back to the roots of our faith. As the Pope says, “Just as the roots of a tree keep it firmly planted in the soil, so too the foundations of a house give it long-lasting stability. Through faith, we have been built up in Jesus Christ, even as a house is built on its foundations. Sacred history provides many examples of saints who built their lives on the Word of God. …Being built up in Jesus Christ means responding positively to God’s call, trusting Him and putting His Word into practice”.

Indeed, there is a strong current of secularist thought that aims to make God marginal in the lives of the people and society, at large, by proposing and attempting to create a “paradise” without Him. Yet, by and by, experience tells us that a world without God becomes a “hell”: filled with selfishness, broken families, hatred between individuals and nations, and a great deficit of love, joy and hope. On the other hand, wherever individuals and nations accept God’s presence, worship Him in truth and listen to His voice, then the civilization of love is being built; a civilization in which the dignity of all is respected, and communion increases, with all its benefits. The dignity of man rests above all on the fact that he is called to communion with God (Gaudium et Spes 19§I). Yet some Christians allow themselves to be seduced by secularism or attracted by religious currents that draw them away from faith in Jesus Christ. There are others who, while not yielding to these enticements, have simply allowed their faith to grow cold, with inevitable negative effects on their moral lives. In order to be firm in faith, the pope says that we have to learn to “see” and to “meet” Jesus in the Eucharist, where He is present and close to us. He even becomes the food for our journey. In the Sacrament of Penance, the Lord reveals His mercy and always grants us His forgiveness. Recognize and serve Jesus in the poor, the sick, and in our brothers and sisters who are in difficulty and in need of help. Enter into a personal dialogue with Jesus Christ and cultivate it in faith. Get to know Him better by reading the Gospels and the Catechism of the Catholic Church. Converse with Him in prayer, and place your trust in Him. He will never betray that trust!

By looking back at the history of the Church, the saints and the martyrs have always drawn from the glorious Cross of Christ the strength to be faithful to God even to the point of offering their own lives. In faith they found the strength to overcome their weaknesses and to prevail over every adversity. The victory born of faith is that of love. There have been, and still are, many Christians who are living witnesses of the power of faith that is expressed in charity.

As we celebrate Catechetical Sunday this year, let us, as catechists and Christians, be the salt and the light of the world because Christ is not meant for us alone. He is the most precious treasure we have; one that is meant to be shared with others. In this age of globalization, let us be witnesses of Christian hope to all families and to all peoples all over the world. The Pope says, “There is nothing more beautiful than to be surprised by the Gospel, by the encounter with Christ. There is nothing more beautiful than to know Him and to speak to others of our friendship with Him” (Mass, Imposition of the Pallium and Conferral of the Fisherman’s Ring for the Beginning of the Petrine Ministry of the Bishop of Rome, 24th April 2005). This hope comes from that encounter and friendship with Him. There are many people longing to receive this hope!

In the same way, the Pope says to the young people, “if you believe, and if you are able to live out your faith and bear witness to it every day, you will become the means of helping other young people like yourselves to find meaning and joy of life, which is born of an encounter with Christ!” So let us celebrate this Catechetical Sunday meaningfully by going back to the root of our faith that is Jesus Christ our Lord.

PRACTICAL ACTIVITY PROPOSALS IN CONJUNCTION TO THE
CATECHETICAL SUNDAY 2011

1. Organize “Lectio Divina” workshop at the level of BEC/KUK/zone/parish.

2. For upper secondary school students: Organize 7 steps Bible Study or write a reflection on (Mat 4:1-11)

3. For lower secondary school students: Organize 7 steps Bible Study on (Luke 19: 1-10)

4. For primary school students:

• Organize Bible reading competition for primary 4-6 students

• Organize drawing or coloring the picture of Jesus with children competition for children under the age of 10 years old

5. Organize commitment renewal session for catechists during Mass and recognize their contribution by giving them certificate of appreciation for their hard work.

6. Reflect and deepen their faith in Jesus Christ by studying the Catechism of the Catholic Church chapter 2, no 422-682

7. Organize “You Tube”/short clips competition based on the Word of God that inspires their personal and family lives.

8. Organize any program that is suitable to the capability and creativity of each parish

UPACARA PENERIMAAN / RITE OF ELECTION 13 MARCH 2011

SERAMAI 939…. DITERIMA DALAM UPACARA PEMILIHAN 2011 KEUSKUPAN AGUNG KOTA KINABALU

KOTA KINABALU: Pada 13 Mac 2011 yang lalu, bersamaan dengan Minggu Pertama Musim Puasa, seramai 939 katekumen telah diterima di seluruh diosis agung Kota Kinabalu tidak termasuk kanak-kanak. Seramai 650 katekumen telah diterima di Katedral Hati Kudus dan seramai 289 lagi para katekumen telah diterima di paroki masing-masing yang tidak dapat hadir ke upacara di Katedral Hati Kudus kerana keadaan paroki yang agak jauh.

Untuk pertama kalinya dalam sejarah diosis agung Kota Kinabalu, Upacara Pemilihan (IKD) serentak telah diadakan di Katedral Hati Kudus, Kota Kinabalu. Upacara yang julungkalinya diadakan sediosis telah disempurnakan oleh Yang Mulia Uskup Agung John Lee, dibantu oleh Coadjutor Uskup Agung John Wong. Seramai 8 orang paderi paroki telah hadir untuk menyerahkan para katekumen mereka kepada Uskup Agung. Mereka adalah Msgr. Primus Jouil dan Fr. Johny Raju dari Katedral Hati Kudus, Fr. Alex Sipanul dari St Michael Penampang, Fr. Aloysius Fidelis dari St. Joseph Papar, Fr. Fundes Motiung dari Stella Maris Tg. Aru, Fr. David Sham dan Fr. Sunny Chung dari St. Catherine Inanam dan Fr. Nicholas Stephen dari paroki St. John, Tuaran.

Cuaca begitu baik pada hari itu dan kelihatan para katekumen dan umat telah mulai datang sebelum jam 2.00 petang dan memenuhi ruang gereja tersebut. Sebelum Upacara dijalankan, taklimat dan raptai telah diadakan yang diketuai oleh Koordinator Komisi Kateketikal, Sr. Dariah Ajap, fsic dan Fr. Nicholas Stephen selaku Penasihat Rohani Komisi Kateketikal.

Tepat pada jam 4.00 petang, Upacara Pemilihan telah dimulakan dengan perarakan masuk ke Gereja. Dalam kata pembukaannya, Uskup Agung telah mengalu-alukan kehadiran para paderi, para katekumen dan umat semua. Dengan perasaan gembira melihat ramai umat berkumpul memenuhi setiap ruang, beliau telah menerangkan bahawa upacara Pemilihan seharusnya disempurnakan oleh Uskup sebagai Gembala Gereja. Beliau juga menerangkan bahawa tahap ini dipanggil “PEMILIHAN” kerana penerimaan katekumen yang dibuat oleh Gereja adalah berasaskan pemilihan oleh Tuhan sendiri yang menguasai Gereja bertindak atas nama-Nya. Upacara ini tidak dapat dijalankan di peringkat diosis agung sebelum ini disebabkan oleh keadaan geografi yang sangat luas, maka ia dilakukan di peringkat paroki sahaja.

Dalam homili, beliau telah menerangkan akan ketiga-tiga pembacaan yang di ambil dari Minggu Pertama Pra Paska Tahun A. Beliau telah menasihati para katekumen agar benar-benar bersedia untuk menerima Sakramen Inisiasi. Katanya, “Tanpa persiapan yang baik, maka perayaan ini tidak akan bererti. Oleh itu sebagai umat-umat pilihan Tuhan, hendaklah anda semua tahu dan bijak memilih yang baik dan menjauhi apa yang membuatkan anda berdosa, kerana dosa memisahkan kita dengan Tuhan.” Uskup juga mengingatkan bahawa adalah tidak mudah untuk menjadi pengikut Yesus, terdapat banyak jenis godaan-godaan dan cabaran-cabaran (kuasa, kedudukan dan kekayaan dunia) yang akan dihadapi. Oleh itu kita haruslah sentiasa bersandar dan berdoa agar kuasa dan Roh Tuhan membimbing kita ke jalan yang benar. Uskup Agung juga menekankan kepada para katekumen bahawa melalui sakramen Pembaptisan yang akan mereka terima, akan mengangkat martabat mereka sebagai anak-anak yang dikasihi.

Setelah homilinya yang disampaikan dalam tiga bahasa, Upacara telah diteruskan dengan upacara

penyerahan calon di mana paderi-delegat, Fr. Nicholas Stephen, telah menjemput para calon dari sebelas paroki dan dua sub-paroki untuk berdiri sebagai tanda penyerahan mereka kepada Uskup Agung. Upacara telah diteruskan dengan Upacara Pendaftaran nama di mana setiap paderi paroki telah menemani para Koordinator kateketikal paroki mereka untuk menyerahkan Buku Para Pilihan kepada Uskup Agung. Upacara singkat tetapi penuh bermakna ini telah diakhiri dengan menandatangani Buku Para Pilihan oleh Uskup Agung dan menyerahkannya kembali kepada paroki masing-masing. Upacara telah diakhiri dengan sesi bergambar bersama Uskup Agung, para paderi, para pilihan serta ahli-ahli Komisi Kateketikal. Jamuan minum ringan juga telah disediakan untuk semua.

Pengalaman dan perkongsian singkat dari para pilihan….

Melalui perkongsian beberapa para pilihan/calon baptis dari beberapa paroki, mereka mengungkapkan perasaan gembira yang tak terhingga kerana dapat menyertai upacara pemilihan ini di Katedral hati Kudus. Kata mereka, “Upacara ini sangat bererti bagi kami kerana Uskup Agung sendiri yang telah menyempurnakan upacara ini serta memilih kami sebagai para pilihan Tuhan. Ini bererti bahawa kami haruslah serius dalam perjalanan iman kami dan perlu membuat persiapan yang baik untuk menerima Sakramen Inisiasi yang akan datang.”

MESYUARAT KOMISI KATEKETIKAL DAN PARA KOORDINATOR KOMITI KATEKETIKAL PAROKI KEUSKUPAN AGUNG K.K. 2011

Penampang: Komisi Kateketikal Keuskupan Agung Kota Kinabalu telah mengadakan mesyuarat bersama dengan Para Koordinator Komiti Kateketikal paroki pada 15hb Februari 2011, bertempat di Pusat Pastoral Keuskupan Agung, Jalan Hiburan Penampang. Banyak perkara yang telah dibincangkan terutama dalam hal-hal pembentukan iman pelajar Minggu Gembira. Antara lain agenda yang telah dibincangkan adalah persiapan Upacara Pemilihan bagi calon-calon baptis yang akan diadakan di Katedral Hati Kudus pada 13 Mac 2011. Daripada laporan para perwakilan paroki, lebih seribu orang akan mengambil bahagian dalam upacara ini termasuk para penanggung dan pembimbing. Selain daripada itu, tema Minggu Kateketikal pada tahun ini juga telah dibincangkan iaitu “Berakar dalam dan dibangun atas Kristus, teguh dalam iman” (Kolose 2:7). Minggu Kateketikal ini akan dirayakan diseluruh Keuskupan Malaysia pada 18 September 2011. Disamping itu retret tahunan dan Konference Kateketikal juga telah ditetapkan pada 29 Ogos hingga 1 September 2011, bertempat di Pusat Retret Bundu Tuhan. Untuk makluman “Vivit Dominus” terbitan Komisi Kateketikal akan diedarkan kepada setiap paroki. Mesyuarat juga telah dimaklumkan oleh Pengerusi bahawa buku Inisiasi Kristian Dewasa sedang dala

m proses untuk membaharuinya dengan nama “Perjalanan Iman Kita Dalam Yesus”. Mesyuarat khas untuk IKD ini akan diadakan di Rumah Rehat Tatal, Keningau pada 28 Februari 2011.

Presentation of the catechumens

After the homily, the priest in charge of the catechumens’ initiation, or a deacon, a catechist, or a representative of the community, presents the catechumens using the following or similar wards.

Deacon/Catechist/representative:

Reverend Father, these catechumens, N. and N., are beginning their final period of preparation and purification leading to their initiation. They have found strength in God’s grace and support in our community’s prayers and example.

Now they ask that they be recognized for the progress they have made in their spiritual formation and that they receive the assurance of our blessings and prayers as they go forth to the rites of election celebrated this afternoon (or next Sunday or specify the day) by Archbishop John Lee (Coadjutor Archbishop John Wong).

Celebrant: Those who are to be sent to the celebration of election in Christ, come forward (please stand), together with those who will be your godparents.

One by one, the catechumens are called by name. Each catechumen, accompanied by a godparent (or god parents), come forward and stands before the celebrant (stand where they are seated).

AFFIRMATION BY THE GODPARENTS (AND THE ASSEMBLY)

Celebrant: My dear friends, these catechumens who have been preparing for the sacraments of initiation hope that they will be found ready to participate in the rite of election and be chosen in Christ for the Easter sacraments. It is the responsibility of this community to inquire about their readiness before they are presented to the bishop.

I turn to you, godparents, for your testimony about these candidates. Have these catechumens taken their formation in the Gospel and in the Catholic way of life seriously?

Godparents: They have.

Celebrant: Have they given evidence of their conversion by the example of their lives?

Godparents: They have.

Celebrant: Do you judge them to be ready to be presented to the bishop for the rite of election?

Godparents: We do.

Celebrant: My dear catechumens, this community, gladly recommends you to the bishop, who, in the name of Christ, will call you to the Easter sacraments. May God bring to completion the good work He has begun in you.

If the signing of the Book of the Elect is to take place in the presence of the Bishop, it is omitted here. However, if the signed Book of the Elect is to be presented to the Bishop in the rite of election, the catechumens may now come forward to sign it or they should sign it after the celebration or at another time prior to the Rite of Election.

And so I announce to all of you here that our community supports these candidates in their desire. Therefore, I asked their sponsor to state their opinion once again, so that all of you may hear.

As God is your witness, do you consider these candidates ready to be received into the full communion of the Catholic Church?

Sponsor: We do.

Celebrant: And now, my dear friends, I address you. Your own sponsors (and this entire community) have spoken in your favor. The Church, in the name of Christ, accepts their testimony and sends you to Archbishop John Lee (Coadjutor Archbishop John Wong) who will exhort you to live in deeper conformity to the life of Christ.

Celebrant: Father of love and power, it is your will to establish everything in Christ and to draw us into his all-embracing love.

Guide these catechumens and candidates in the days and weeks ahead: strengthen them in their vocation, build them into the kingdom of your Son, and seal them with the Spirit of your promise.

DISMISSAL OF THE CATECHUMENS

If the eucharist is to be celebrated, the catechumens are normally dismissed at this point by use of option A or B; if the catechumens are to stay for the celebration of the eucharist, option C is used; if the eucharist is not to be celebrated, the entire assembly is dismissed by use of option D.

A. The celebrant dismiss the catechumens in these or similar words.

Celebrant: My dear friends, you are about to set out on the road that lead to the glory of Easter. Christ will be your way, your truth, and your life. In his name we send you forth from this community to celebrate with the bishop the Lord’s choice of you to be numbered among his elect. Until we meet again for the scrutinies, walk always in his peace.

Catechumens: Amen.
B. As an optional formulary for dismissing the catechumens, the celebrant may use these or similar words.

Celebrant: My dear friends, this community now sends you forth to reflect more deeply upon the word of God which you have shared with us today. Be assured of our loving support and prayers for you. We look forward to the day when you will share fully in the Lord’s Table.

C. If for serious reason the catechumens cannot leave (see no. 75.3) and must remain with the rest of the liturgical assembly, they, along with the candidates, are to be instructed that though they are present at the eucharist, they cannot take part in it as the Catholic faithful do. They may be reminded of this by the celebrant in these or similar words.

Celebrant: Although you cannot yet participate fully in the Lord’s eucharist, stay with us as a sign of our hope that all God’s children will eat and drink with the Lord and work with his Spirit to re-create the face of the earth.

CELEBRATION OF CALL OF THE ELECT

The second step in the Christian initiation is the liturgical rite called both Election and the Enrolment of Names, which closes the period of the catechumenate proper, that is, the lengthy period of formation of the catechumens’ minds and hearts. The celebration of the Rite of Election, which usually coincides with the opening of Lent, also marks the beginning of the period of final, more intense preparation for the Sacraments of Initiation, during which the Elect will be encouraged to follow Christ with greater generosity.

At this second step on the basis of the testimony of godparents and Catechists, and of the catechumens’ affirmation of their intention, the Church judges their state of readiness and decides on their advancement towards the sacraments of Initiation. Thus the Church makes its “election”, that is, the choice and admission of those catechumens who have the dispositions that make them fit to take part in the sacraments of Initiation, that is - Baptism, Confirmation and Eucharist.

This step is called Election because the acceptance made by the Church is founded on the election by God in whose name the Church acts. This step is called the Enrolment of Names because as a pledge of fidelity the candidates inscribe their names in the book that lists those who have been chosen for initiation.

INTRODUCTION

A very good afternoon and a warm welcome dear brothers and sisters in Christ and friends.

We have gathered here today to celebrate the Rite of Election in the Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults of the Year A 2011.

The Theme for our celebration is:

We are gathered here today with our shepherd Most Reverend Archbishop John Lee as a whole People of God of the Archdiocese of Kota Kinabalu to assist our brothers and sisters in the catechumenate in their rite of passage to becoming the “Elect” of God.

As the Elect of God, they will enter into the Stage of Purification and Enlightenment during which they will prepare themselves to enter into the life of God in the church through the sacraments of Initiation.

It is right that we begin this new and intensive stage of preparation for Baptism on the First Sunday of Lent, for during Lent the whole Church prepares itself to celebrate the Paschal Mysteries of the Lord. Baptism itself is an immersion into those very Paschal Mysteries of our Lord. In this way our catechumens will glorify God in the Easter sacraments of Baptism, Confirmation and Eucharist.

A reading from the Book of Genesis 2: 7-9, 3: 1-7

The Lord God fashioned man of dust from the soil. Then he breathed into his nostrils a breath of life, and thus man became a living being.

The Lord God planted a garden in Eden which is in the east, and there he put the man he had fashioned. The Lord God caused to spring up from the soil every kind of tree enticing to look at and good to eat, with the tree of life and the tree of knowledge of good and evil in the middle of the garden.

The serpent was the most subtle of all the wild beasts that the Lord God had made. It asked the woman, “Did God really say you were not to eat from any of the trees in the garden?” The woman answered the serpent, “We may eat the fruit of the trees in the garden. But the fruit of thetree in the middle of the garden God said, ‘You must not eat it, nor touch it, under pain of death.’ “Then the serpent said to the woman: “No! You will not die! God knows in fact that on the day you eat it your eyes will be opened and you will be like gods, knowing good and evil.” The woman saw that the tree was good to eat and pleasing to the eye, and that it was desirable for the knowledge that it could give. So she took some of its fruit and ate it. She gave some also to her husband who was with her, and he ate it. Then the eyes of both of them were opened and they realized that they were naked. So they sewed fig-leaves together to make themselves loincloths.

Second Reading

A reading from the Letter of St. Paul to the Romans 5: 12-19

Sin entered the world through one man, and through sin death, and thus death spread through the human race because everyone has sinned.



Sin existed in the world long before the Law was given. There was no law and so no one could be accused of the sin of “Law breaking”, yet death reigned over all from Adam to Moses, even though their sin, unlike that of Adam, was not a matter of breaking the law.



Adam prefigured the One to come, but the gift itself considerably outweighed the fall. If it is certain that through one man’s fall so many died, it is even more certain that divine grace, coming through one man, Jesus Christ, came to so many as an abundant free gift. The results of the gift also outweigh the results of one man’s sin: for after one single fall came judgement with a verdict of condemnation, now after many falls comes grace with its verdict of acquittal.



If it is certain that death reigned over everyone as the consequence of one man’s fall, it even more certain that one man, Jesus Christ, will cause everyone to reign in life who receives the free gift that he does not deserve, of being made righteous. Again, as one man’s fall brought condemnation on everyone, so the good act of one man brings everyone life and makes them justified. As by one man’s disobedience many were made sinners, so by one man’s obedience many will be made righteous.

The devil then took him to the holy city and made him stand on the parapet of the Temple. “If you are the Son of God” he said “throw yourself down; for scripture says: He will put you in his angel’s charge, and they will support you on their hands in case you hurt your foot against a stone”.

Jesus said to him, “Scripture also says: You must not put the Lord your God to the test”.

Next, taking him to a very high mountain, the devil showed him all the kingdoms of the world and their splendour, “I will give you all these,” he said, “if you fall at my feet and worship me.”

Then Jesus replied, “Be off, Satan! For scripture says: You must worship the Lord your God, and serve him alone.” Then the devil left him, and angels appeared and looked after him.

Your Grace Archbishop John Lee, I present to you this afternoon, the Catechumens of the Archdiocese of Kota Kinabalu. These men and women have heard the call of Christ and have undertaken the RCIA journey in this past year. They have completed their time of preparation in the catechumenate, having found strength in God’s grace and support in the community of the Church.

They stand now at the threshold of the Stage of Purification and Enlightenment. They ask of Your Grace that they be elected in God, so that after the celebration of the scrutinies during Lent, they may be initiated into the Easter sacraments of Baptism, Confirmation and Holy Eucharist.

Bishop: Those who are to be elected in Christ, please stand with your godparents and sponsors.

Therefore, do you wish to enter fully into the life of the Church through the sacraments of Baptism, Confirmation and the Eucharist.

Bishop: God is always faithful to those he calls. Now is your duty, as it is ours, both to be faithful to him and return and to strive courageously to reach the fullness of truth, which your election opens up before you.

Bishop: Godparents, you have spoken in favour of these elect. Accept them now as chosen in the Lord and continue to sustain them through your loving care and example, until they come to share in the Sacraments of God’s life. As a gesture of intent on your part, I ask you to raise your hand over the elect.

Bishop: My brothers and sisters, in the beginning of this period of Lent, we look forward to celebrating at Easter the life-giving mysteries of our Lord’s suffering, death and resurrection. Upacara ini adalah TAHAP KEDUA atau PINTU MASUK dalam perjalanan iman. Ianya dirayakan pada hari MINGGU PERTAMA MUSIM PUASA.

Ia berlaku selepas masa persiapan atau bimbingan para Katekumen dalam pengertian akan iman gereja. Komuniti Kristian bertanggungjawab memilih Para Katekumen yang mana nama mereka mungkin didaftar untuk Sakramen-sakramen Inisiasi pada Hari Paska. Hanya mereka yang telah membuat ketetapan ingin menyerahkan diri mereka kepada Kristus dan Gereja-Nya dipilih. Pertaubatan batin para katekumen itu mesti dapat dilihat melalui amalan-amalan hidup seperti mengampuni orang lain, taat berdoa, membantu orang lain, ketaatan dalam hidup perkahwinan dan sebagainya.

Tahap ini dipanggil “PEMILIHAN” kerana penerimaan katekumen yang dibuat oleh Gereja adalah berasaskan pemilihan oleh Tuhan sendiri yang menguasai Gereja bertindak atas nama-Nya. Sebagai tanda ketaatan, para katekumen dalam upacara ini mendaftarkan nama masing-masing dalam buku pemilihan calon-calon yang terpilih untuk inisiasi.

Pembacaan dari Kitab Kejadian (2: 7-9, 3: 1 -7)

Tuhan Allah membentuk manusia dari debu tanah dan menghembuskan nafas hidup ke dalam hidungnya; demikianlah manusia itu menjadi mahkluk yang hidup. Selanjutnya Tuhan Allah membuat taman di Eden, di sebelah timur; di situlah di tempatkan-Nya manusia yang dibentuk-Nya itu. Lalu Tuhan Allah menumbuhkan berbagai-bagai pohon dari bumi, yang menarik dan yang baik untuk dimakan buahnya; dan pohon kehidupan di tengah-tengah taman itu, serta pohon pengetahuan tentang yang baik dan yang jahat. Adapun ular ialah yang paling cerdik dari segala binatang di darat yang dijadikan oleh Tuhan Allah. Ular itu berkata kepada perempuan itu. “Tentulah Allah berfirman: Semua pohon dalam taman ini jangan kamu makan buahnya, bukan?” Lalu sahut perempuan itu kepada ular itu, “Buah pohon-pohonan dalam taman ini boleh kami makan, tetapi tentang buah pohon yang ada di tengah-tengah taman, Allah berfirman: Jangan kamu makan ataupun raba buah itu, nanti kamu mati.” Tetapi ular itu berkata kepada perempuan itu, “Sekali-kali kamu tidak akan mati, tetapi Allah mengetahui, bahawa pada waktu kamu memakannya matamu akan terbuka, dan kamu akan menjadi seperti Allah, tahu tentang yang baik dan yang jahat.” Perempuan itu melihat, bahawa buah pohon itu baik untuk dimakan dan sedap kelihatannya, lagipun pohon itu menarik hati kerana memberi pengertian. Lalu ia mengambil dari buahnya dan dimakannya dan diberikannya juga kepada suaminya yang bersama-sama dengan dia, dan suaminya pun memakannya. Maka terbukalah mata mereka berdua dan mereka tahu, bahawa mereka telanjang; lalu mereka menyemat daun pohon ara dan membuat sawat.

Demikianlah Sabda Tuhan.

Pembacaan dari Surat Rasul Paulus kepada umat di Roma (5: 12-19; atau 5: 12. 17-19)
Saudara-saudara, sama seperti dosa telah masuk ke dalam dunia oleh satu orang, dan oleh dosa itu juga maut, demikianlah maut itu telah menjalar kepada semua orang, kerana semua orang telah berbuat dosa. (Sebab sebelum hukum Taurat ada, telah ada dosa di dunia. Tetapi dosa itu tidak diperhitungkan kalau tidak ada hukum Taurat, Sungguhpun demikian maut telah berkuasa dari zaman Adam sampai kepada zaman Musa juga atas mereka, yang tidak berbuat dosa dengan cara yang sama seperti yang telah dibuat oleh Adam, yang adalah gambaran Dia yang akan datang. Tetapi kurnia Allah tidaklah sama dengan pelanggaran Adam. Sebab, jika kerana pelanggaran satu orang semua orang telah jatuh di dalam kuasa maut, jauh lebih besar lagi kasih kurnia Allah dan kurnia –Nya, yang dilimpahkan-Nya atas semua orang kerana satu orang, yaitu Yesus Kristus. Dan kasih kurnia tidak berimbangan dengan dosa satu orang. Sebab penghakiman atas satu pelanggaran itu telah mengakibatkan penghukuman, tetapi penganugerahan kurnia atas banyak pelanggaran itu mengakibatkan pembenaran). Sebab, jika oleh dosa satu orang, maut telah berkuasa oleh satu orang itu, maka lebih benar lagi mereka , yang telah menerima kelimpahan kasih kurnia dan anugerah kebenaran, akan hidup dan berkuasa oleh kerana satu orang itu, yaitu Yesus Kristus. Sebab itu, sama seperti oleh satu pelanggaran semua orang beroleh penghukuman, demikian pula oleh satu perbuatan kebenaran semua orang beroleh pembenaran untuk hidup. Jadi sama seperti oleh ketidaktaatan satu orang semua orang telah menjadi orang berdosa, demikian pula oleh ketaatan satu orang semua orang menjadi benar.

Manusia hidup bukan dari makanan saja, tetapi juga dari setiap sabda Allah.

Bacaan Injil

Inilah Injil Yesus Kristus karangan Santo Matius 4: 1-11

Pada waktu itu Yesus dibawa oleh Roh ke padang gurun untuk dicubai Iblis. Dan setelah berpuasa empat puluh hari dan empat puluh malam, akhirnya laparlah Yesus. Lalu datanglah si pencuba itu dan berkata kepada-Nya, “Jika Engkau Putera Allah, perintahkanlah supaya batu-batu ini menjadi roti.” Tetapi Yesus menjawab, “Ada tertulis; Manusia hidup bukan dari roti saja, tetapi dari setiap firman yang keluar dari mulut Allah.” Kemudian Iblis membawa-Nya ke Kota Suci dan menempatkan Dia di bumbungan Bait Allah, lalu berkata kepada-Nya, “Jika Engkau Putera Allah, jatuhkanlah diri-Mu ke bawah, sebab ada tertulis: Mengenai Engkau Ia akan memerintahkan malaikat-malaikat-Nya dan mereka akan menatang Engkau di atas tangannya, supaya kaki-Mu jangan terantuk kepada batu.” Yesus berkata kepadanya, Ada pula tertulis: Jangan Engkau mencubai Tuhan, Allahmu!” Dan iblis membawa-Nya pula ke atas gunung yang sangat tinggi dan memperlihatkan kepada-Nya semua kerajaan dunia dengan kemegahannya, dan berkata kepada-Nya, dan berkata kepada-Nya, “Semua itu akan kuberikan kepada-M, jika Engkau sujud menyembah aku.” Maka berkatalah Yesus kepadanya, “Enyalah, Iblis! Sebab ada tertulis: Engkau harus menyembah Tuhan, Allahmu, dan hanya kepada Dia sajalah engkau berbakti!” Lalu Iblis meninggalkan Dia, dan Lihatlah, malaikat-malaikat datang melayani Yesus.

PENYERAHAN PARA CALON

(Sesudah homili, mereka yang bertanggungjawab atas inisiasi para katekumen akan menyerahkan mereka yang terpilih dengan kata berikut…)

Paderi –delegat: Bapa Uskup, Dengan sukacitanya kami menyerahkan kepadamu para katekumen yang hadir di sini untuk dibaptis pada Hari Paska.

Mereka telah berjalan bersama kami di dalam perjalanan iman dan kami menyokong supaya mereka dibaptis.

Kami bersaksi bahawa para katekumen ini telah menerima Kristus di dalam kehidupan mereka dan mereka ingin sekali memasuki dan menyertai komuniti Kristian kami dengan sepenuhnya.

Uskup: Saudara dan saudari yang telah dipilih di dalam Kristus, anda dijemput untuk maju ke hadapan (berdiri) bersama dengan wali baptis masing-masing.

SOKONGAN PARA WALI BAPTIS DAN UMAT HADIRIN

Uskup: Gereja Kudus Allah ingin mengetahui samada para katekumen ini sungguh layak untuk dipilih sebagai calon baptisan. Maka dari itu, saya ingin bertanya kepada wali baptis.

Dapatkah saudara-saudari memberi kesaksian, bahawa para katekumen ini rajin mendengarkan Sabda Allah yang diwartakan oleh Gereja?

Wali Baptis: Ya, kami dapat.

Uskup: Dapatkah saudara-saudari memberi kesaksian, bahawa mereka sudah berusaha hidup sesuai dengan iman dan mentaati tuntutan-tuntutan Injil?

Wali Baptis: Ya, kami dapat.

Uskup: Dapatkah saudara-saudari memberi kesaksian, bahawa mereka sudah mulai melibatkan diri dalam persekutuan umat dan dalam upacara-upacara ibadat?

Uskup : Sekarang kepada jemaah umum: Sanggupkah kamu menyokong testimoni yang dilahirkan mengenai para ketekuman dan mendoakan serta menyayangi mereka apabila kita menuju ke arah Hari Paska?

Uskup: Para katekumen yang terpilih, kami telah menerima kesaksian yang menggembirakan tentang kemajuan suadara-saudari. Maka atas nama Kristus, kami mengundang saudara-saudari untuk menempuh persiapan terakhir sebelum perayaan sakramen-sakramen inisiasi.

Saudara-saudari sudah lama mendengar panggilan Kristus, maka hendaklah saudara-saudari sekarang menyatakan di muka umum kesediaan saudara-saudari untuk mengikutiNya.

Jadi, bersediakah saudara-saudari menjadi anggota gereja Kristus dengan menerima sakramen Pembaptisan, Penguatan dan Ekaristi?

Uskup: Para wali baptis: saudara-saudari telah menyuarakan sokongan anda terhadap para katekumen ini. Sekarang terimalah mereka sebagai yang dipilih di dalam Tuhan dan teruskanlah sokongan anda terhadap mereka melalui cintakasih dan teladan, sehingga mereka datang untuk menyertai di dalam sakramen-sakramen kehidupan Allah.

Sebagai tanda komitmen saudara-saudari kepada calon saudara-saudari, tumpangkanlah tangan kanan saudara-saudari pada bahu calon masing-masing, sambil berdoa untuk mereka.

DOA PERANTARAAN

Uskup: Saudara dan saudari, pada permulaan masa Prapaska, kita menanti dengan rindu untuk merayakan misteri-misteri yang membawa kehidupan iaitu kesengsaraan Tuhan, kematian-Nya dan kebangkitan-Nya pada Hari Paska. Para terpilih ini, yang kita bawa bersama ke sakramen-sakramen Paska, akan mengharapkan daripada pihak kita suatu teladan pembaharuan Kristian. Marilah kita berdoa kepada Tuhan bagi mereka dan bagi diri kita sendiri agar kita dibaharui oleh usaha-usaha kita bersama dan bersama-sama datang untuk menyertai di dalam kegembiraan Paska.

Pembantu: Kita berdoa agar kita semua dapat lebih menggunakan masa Prapaska ini untuk membaharui diri kita sendiri melalui penyangkalan diri dan kerja-kerja yang mulia. Kita berdoa kepada Tuhan.

PENUTUPAN UPACARA PEMILIHAN

Uskup: Para terpilih yang dikasihi, kami turut bergembira dengan saudara dan saudari pada hari pemilihan ini. Saudara-saudari sekarang telah memasuki masa persiapan terakhir, sebelum menerima sakramen –sakramen inisiasi. Semoga Kristus, Jalan, Kebenaran dan Kehidupan kita, selalu menyertai saudara-saudari.

Maka dengan itu upacara pemilihan sudah selesai. Sehingga kita bertemu lagi di dalam perayaan “Penyucian”, berjalanlah selalu di dalam kedamaian-Nya.

MEETING ON RCIA - 16 JANUARY 2011

MESYUARAT PERSIAPAN UPACARA PEMILIHAN (IKD)

                   Pada 16 January 2011, Komisi Kateketikal Diosis Agung dengan para Koordinator/Pengerusi Komiti Kateketikal paroki bersama para pembimbing IKD mereka telah mangadakan mesyuarat di Sacred Heart Cathedral.  Agenda utama adalah persiapan Upacara Pemilihan / Rite of Elect  yang akan diadakan  sediosis pada 13 March 2011.  Turut hadir ialah Fr. Johny Raju, Fr. Nicholas Stephen serta Deacon Florian Marcus.  Selepas mesyuarat, raptai juga telah diadakan di Gereja Sacred Heart.  Dijangka lebih seribu para katekumen termasuk para penanggung dan pembimbing akan hadir pada upacara tersebut.  Upacara seperti in pertama kali diadakan dalam sejarah Komisi Kateketikal. Ia juga mendapat sambutan yang baik.

Pada 8 Januari 2011, pembentukan iman para pembimbing Pertemuan Minggu Gembira  dan Inisiasi Kristian Dewasa selama sehari telah diadakan di Dewan Paroki St. Michael Penampang.  Lebih seratus para pembimbing telah menghadiri pembentukan ini termasuk para pembimbing dari paroki baru, Holy Nativity Terawi.  Tiga sesi telah disampaikan iaitu Peranan dan tanggungjawab Pembimbing dan ahli Komiti yang baru dipilih, penggunaan Siri Kateketik Malaysia dan Proses Inisiasi Kristian Dewasa.

Malaysian Catechetical Commission Meeting 2011

MCC met in Bundu Tuhan 2011
Bundu Tuhan: Malaysian Catechetical Commission Meeting was held its yearly meeting on 17th – 19th January 2011 at Bundu Tuhan Retreat Centre headed by Bishop Datuk Cornelius Piong as the MCC President and chaired by Rev. Fr. Boniface Kimsin. All the representatives from all diocese of Malaysia were present except representative from Miri diocese. The National representative from National Catechetical Office (NCO) and the Vicariate of Brunei were also present for this meeting. The most important focus being discussed in this meeting was to review all the topics in the faith formation used in the Rite of Christian Initiation of Adult book which have been used for more than 20 years. It was decided that in learning the Catholic faith, it should be according to the sign of times and according to the Malaysian context based on the Catechism of the Catholic Church. It was agreed that the new title for the RCIA book is “Our Faith Journey in Jesus”.

For those involve in the RCIA team, a special meeting for this purpose will be held in Pace Bene, FSIC Retreat and Formation Centre on 20th – 22th June 2011. In communion with the universal Church on strengthening one’s personal relationship with Jesus, it was decided to adopt the WYD 2011 theme for this year’s Catechetical Sunday. The theme is “Planted and Built up in Jesus Christ, Firm in the Faith” (Col. 2:7). Catechetical Sunday this year falls on 18th September 2011. Fr. Nicholas Stephen from the Archdiocese of Kota Kinabalu was given the mandate to prepare the reflection based on the theme. The Malaysian Catechetical Commission will be having their meeting next year in Penang diocese on 17th – 19th January 2012.
